== Usage notes == === Combinations === * end of history: After Trotsky was assassinated, the prevailing philosophical position across most of the people of the First World has been that Trotsky was less bad than Stalin, and nobody can side with Stalin, but if Trotsky could not realize Trotskyism then it simply must be too hard to realize Bolshevism in the only way that would be acceptable, and thus it is not worth realizing Bolshevism whatsoever. Said another way, a great number of people passively believe that if there is no Trotskyism there is no socialist transition; if there is no Trotskyism then it is the end of specific-sense materialist history. This is generally what is meant by "the end of history": the end of historical materialism, not the end of historical transitions. It is worth noting that different people give up at different points, choosing different named Marxisms as their arbitrary cutoff for the only possible Marxism. Some people will think it is the end of history because Gramsci in particular failed, or James P. Cannon failed; other people will think it is the end of history because Malcom X failed; yet other people might think it is the end of history because they could only ever believe in anarchism but they think anarchism has failed.
