=== Freedom === If you want to get the true ending of Deltarune, Kris must have found at least two Shadow Crystals, Spared the two Shadow Crystal characters in the Titan world, and unlocked the final Knight room. What you did in the Knight room doesn't actually matter, as long as you found the trapped Knight, and either in that room {{em|or}} in the Chapter 3 Knight fight picked up the Black Shard. When you have done this, Kris will have a Black Shard in Chapter 7. During the upheaval with the Titans and the refugees, there are a few areas where Kris, Susie, and Noelle can walk down into the pit. These paths look like messes of shadowed rock and dirt, and just feel a bit pointless, like there's really not much here. The actual crack of darkness where reality drops off is visible off to the side a little further down. But, if you follow these shadowed paths around just right to point yourself south and head toward where the shelter would be, one of the long, winding corridors eventually has a side path. When Kris goes into this chamber, it appears to be utterly empty. Even the Shadow Crystal doesn't actually show anything. But in this room, when Kris holds up the Black Shard, they can see Dess lying in the dirt unconscious, with a shard of sharp black glass stabbed into just one palm. He is not an ominous shadowed researcher figure with a cool coat, he just looks a lot like an older Noelle, with short hair and angular antlers but minus the beard. Kris stabs the Shadow Crystal into the earth, careful not to hit the area where Dess would be, and the three of them are able to stand in a featureless dark area where Dess is finally visible. Noelle gently extracts the dark shard from her brother's hand, this time thankfully able to see it well enough to not get cut. As soon as the shard is removed Dess rather abruptly comes to his senses and sits up. {{b|Dess:}} ...Whatβ... {{stage|[looks around]}}
{{b|Dess:}} {{stage|[spots Kris and Noelle, freezes with dread]}} No. You can't do this.
{{b|Dess:}} It'sβ. It'll all explode.
{{stage|[Dess dives to try to get the shard back, but Noelle is holding it out of reach.]}}
{{b|Susie:}} Nothing is going to explode. Calm down.
{{stage|[Noelle hands the shard over to Susie.]}}
{{b|Dess:}} But. Itβ. The world will end. I'm the only one that can do anything about it.
{{b|Noelle:}} {{stage|[compassionate]}} No, you're not.
{{b|Noelle:}} {{stage|[holds Dess' bad arm at the wrist]}} It's much better to do this with four of us.
{{stage|[Dess uses his other arm to get to his feet. He still looks confused about all this, as if he had never expected anyone to care about him, but is ultimately glad to have been found.]}}
{{b|Susie:}} Let's go crush this thing.
{{b|Susie:}} By the way, I'm Susie.
The red Soul shines and the dirt canyon returns. Kris, Susie, Noelle, and Dess head back up to the main area of Hometown, where the biggest Titans are fading away one by one. There are still small Titans rising out of the cracks in the earth to drive away, but when you get through all that, there is a shimmering column of light coming down through the sky at the highest point of all the broken-up scarps and upthrows. When the four reach that point, light shines down on all of them, and the red Soul floats up into the column of light, issuing out one more great shining pulse that dissolves all the Titans, and vanishing into the sky. Kris is fine. Susie, Noelle, and Dess are fine. There is a montage of the four of them simply going around rebuilding things as the residents return to Hometown and the earth has been inexplicably closing back up. They return to the Dark Worlds, which have come back and rebooted themselves in new forms but still contain many of the same characters. The three appear to have formed some kind of task force to help residents adventure through their own Dark Worlds and locate their problems. The town pays them and this is their job now. Dess is concealed away in a dark corner of the rebuilt Holiday house intently typing up some kind of very important book. Kris and Noelle come in to make sure he gets something to eat and takes a break. He doesn't mind hanging out with them at all. He gets up, takes his black-leather edgelord coat off the rack, and follows them out to the diner. He's fixed himself up to look almost exactly like his Titan world version except not metallic-sounding or shadowed; he wouldn't have it any other way. Susie has new clothes too. As for the Roaring Knight, it's gone. Should Dess appear in a Dark World, he has a Roaring-Knight styled helmet and fingerless leather gloves that scream "fantasy falconer trying too hard". He's a bit of a Ranger. He uses books, which sit on his fist as tiny abstract shadow demons and fly into opponents like arrows. The Black Shard has been buried. The one that formed the Knight wasn't real to begin with; when Susie left the second Titan world it just turned into a puddle of tears on her hand (much to her confusion), and rained into the dirt. Now if Dess forms a Dark World it turns into a strange but beautiful obsidian pine tree. The Knight-tree has become somewhat like his Ralsei; it's always there, reflecting a part of his identity, but it's there more as a comforting landmark to sit under and think than any kind of problem. In a way, things have come full circle, because Dess has once again become the man behind the tree. Sans ended up in the Undertale world. He broke out of the shelter Dark World fleeing the inevitable end of Deltarune, and ended up in Snowdin. He was relieved at first to find out there was somewhere else. But before long twin realizations hit him that both the Deltarune world probably wasn't doomed and he'd never be able to go back. He'd never even met the voice telling him things on the phone. As quickly as he could he scribbled out a picture of Kris and Noelle standing next to Toriel and labeled it "Don't forget". He looked at the other picture Kris had given him, confused, wondering if he'd still forgotten something and what that other entity behind the tree could be. It was a little embarrassing Kris' drawing skill as a kid was better than his. Oh well β at least he had Papyrus. Maybe he should take that drawing's advice and forget everything else. In time, he put it behind him. But why did he have the weird feeling that the ghostly image of the destroyed Deltarune world was silently watching him? The Deltarune world has healed. Pockets and cracks of Titan-world might crop up in other towns, but given somebody who is willing to be honest with themself and seek the truth, these other Roarings will close themselves and their respective "Roaring Knights" will vanish.
