It represents the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ply_(game_theory) number of turns] required to discover a particular concept by combining elementary concepts. The ply count for combining two elements is typically calculated by taking the element with the greater ply count and adding 1. An Item's ply count should be an integer greater than or equal to zero. The most totally basic elements in an entire palette of elements (a Wavebuilder dictionary) are sometimes assigned a ply count of 0, especially if they are system-internal concepts required for setting up the game in some way; for an arbitrary set of elements shown at the start of a game, the starting elements may be either reset to a ply count of 1 or allowed to display at exactly the ply score they gain from the elements leading up to them. If there is no particular known combination that leads to an element it should be assigned a default ply count of 1. With regard to Lithographica Items, it should not be assumed there are any particular starting Items. A few Items have been assigned ply scores of 0 due to subjective arguments they truly are more basic than anything else Ββ in particular, the [[Ontology:Q1|process of Being]] described in Heidegger's book that separates all describable concepts which are distinct concepts. Apart from these cases, all Items will get their scores relative to other Items and how many combinations result from them or are required to create them.
