History is matter understanding itself (Marx)

	General-sense historical materialism is the study of events that happen in human populations or at smaller scales of spacetime as understandable material processes which may be partly reproducible in many cases if not necessarily in all cases. It is distinguished from <i>specific-sense</i> historical materialism in that it can be demonstrated fully within the context of Liberal capitalism without getting into the topic of workers' movements — although this is not a necessary point within it, and it can easily be elaborated to properly cover class processes and socialist transitions as well. General-sense historical materialism primarily concerns itself with applying broad patterns found in the theories of special and general relativity to show that time is material, events are material, and individual events and series of events are material even if they occur inside human populations. It may also be applied to do simple Materialist analyses of fictional narratives and processes of creating fiction which make use of repeatable rules to construct a fictional cosmos, in the same sense that science can be applied to create science fiction or applied in very limited ways to describe art [[:Category:Representational art ontology\|playing representational roles]] and imitating life within other genres. (It is true that this kind of method has a limited scope when only some works of fiction make use of material or physics-like rules and any work of fiction may instead descend into poetic, expressive kinds of rules to construct its internal ontologies of concepts.)
