			this is why people were tempted to cast Trump as "the villain" with all the Harry Potter book metaphors. they thought there was a connection between Trump and morality, and that that connection was described in Harry Potter. but they may not have been correct about exactly what the connection was. the actual connection is that Voldemort had a moral code he didn't want to abandon. "There is only power and those who seek it," I think is what he says in the early books. similarly, Trump supporters have their own moral code, which is much more complicated than that, and haven't been willing to drop it partly due to all that complexity that you can't refute in just a few seconds.<br/>
			in contrast, it would be hard to be a boastful villain if you were actually amoral. you'd realize before long that any particular warped moral code wasn't really worth defending as it had no real significance behind it. honestly.... I think [[E:Q42\|existentialism]] creates villains, and nihilism is genuinely better — if no human individual has the ability to dictate the meaning of anything, then they can't define harmful things as good, but it is not really possible to exist as a living thing without a theory of material consequences, so you will come to understand consequences objectively and qualitatively without labeling them good or bad.

I guess it helps that as a kid I had a year where I hyperfixated on Christmas carols and wanted to know about all of them and was attempting to learn to play them on instruments, and so it's like, I'm a little overjoyed to have a dumb excuse to get obsessed with Christmas carols again, also in a form that's potentially improved. there are so many things I love about this
