Meta-ontology is, in general, the ontological study of ontologies. The definition of meta-ontology easily overlaps with the more general field of meta-philosophy, given that both philosophy and ontology can claim to do the task of mapping what is — even as this can lead to conflicts between ideologies over the notion of whether ontologies should be discussed in plurality or in opposition.
