I guess it was winter in that legend where the tribes of Equestria came together in G4 to survive the windigos and found Equestria. but... this lyric is so weird. it has... subtle baggage that's difficult to explain.
I'm going to say this is a literal motif, not a broad one. it's literally just about the meaning of the lyrics in the G1 song. although you're allowed to bring up any other MLP cartoon to attempt to discuss its history.
that said. I'm quite tempted to make combinations linking this to "seasons as warring states period" and "Spring Song" - MLP:FiM is a superstructural fantasy world
- MLP:FiM contains Christian messages [1] / MLP:FiM as secular bible (sense) -> hmm. I think that is technically true but only by sheer coincidence.

- the binding of Rainbow Dash / the binding of Isaac, but you have to sacrifice Rainbow Dash [2] -> that is so funny. there is legitimate creativity that went into this

- treasure raiders (fiction) -> I just read a story about an Indiana Jones type character who loots ancient artifacts and it really got me thinking about the whole problem of Queen Ruby and the gold walls and the meaning of gold and treasures in medieval fantasy again. I feel like a lot of modern concepts of what "stealing" is are actually passed down directly from a long time ago and upper classes trying to defend their power, and everybody just forgot what it all even was saying because it still superficially made sense. so. is an artifact really some kind of sign that a kingdom has been "producing value" imbuing value into the artifacts, or is it the case that someone stealing an artifact is actually a problem because the artifact itself never had inherent internal value to begin with, and in fact, the treasure raider is actually just appropriating status which normally is awarded through very specific pathways? I feel like the "value" of these kinds of artifacts is a bit of an illusion concealing the real relationships within ancient societies.
this gets more obvious in capitalism when the real wealth is business territories, and in a way, all currency only represents pieces of business territories and the apparent capability to run a business territory. that is the kind of thing I'm saying. I think something a little like that but not exactly like that applies to feudal orders and like, tenure? something like that. and this is why Queen Ruby can't just declare that gold is inherently good at making things happen like it was actually a form of magic. - Starlight Glimmer and changing the timeline
- mane six come back with blue streaks in hair -> whenever I look at Starlight Glimmer now I keep thinking of this. I keep thinking, it's not a perfect match but it's almost like they match now, and they're all trying to be more like Starlight. I love to imagine that G6 is actually some kind of weird cursed timeline where Starlight reset everything so she could be more important, like she did in G4 except somehow she thought it through a bit more this time and got away with it.
Starlight corners Twilight and reveals that Twilight only became an alicorn because Twilight messed with the timeline, while Starlight with her whole misshapen but very strong concept of fairness would never go that far - MLP G5 and cutie marks
