- global empire processes / colonialism (process or motif) / endocolonialism (generic) / exocolonialism (generic) / imperialism (generic) / global empire processes (imperialism; colonialism) as discussed in postcolonial frameworks, post-structuralism or postmodernism, anarchism, or North American Maoism ->
it will always be the bane of me that they called it colonialism and left the subtle implication that a group of White people existing somewhere is itself bad versus the actual action of doing violence to another population. that makes it especially hard to discuss the purported model that it comes from "greed", because in the case of the United States people left England to avoid having to "greedily" fight and kill other religious sects so they could have at least a little time to "selflessly" exist only through their own work and tent of freedom poles. that's all people are going to see when you try to discuss "greed" and reparations, they're just going to bring up the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and stuff. - global empire processes -> basically, the moment you read an article about Columbus doing horrific things in Hispaniola you can mark it as containing this motif, or the moment you read about the overall war over the United States frontier to exterminate North American tribes. those are the basic examples. if there is a violent conflict that effectively spans two continents where you can mark out some particular kingdom or locus of wealth plus ruling classes that has crossed a major geographical boundary it could be a "global empire process". Spanish kingdom versus Aztec kingdom — sure, global empire process. British kingdom versus shattered Indic kingdom — global empire process. Nazi Germany trying to claim Poland or Africa — global empire process. but it's also this motif when people are arguing about whether "colonialism is in our minds" and whether ideas somehow cause global empire. these claims tangentially connect back to the content of this motif because this is the topic said theories are making factual claims about.
