no, I don't hate their funny words. I feel like they illustrate how much the academics are failing to describe their own thesis statement and what it is claiming because they can't properly define any given term they try to define so they can only come up with new ones, but apart from that, I just like going around collecting them and putting them up on the wall in a frame. - black livingness [3] -> black livingness is something that prevails if you ground your models in ecology and Blackness. you study black livingness in order to do worldmaking.

- study of cultural landscapes combining archives with landscape interpretations (Carl Sauer 1925) [4] / study of agroecologies -> ah, okay, so all of this "Black geographies" stuff actually is something. it's a way of visualizing borderless populations or tribal societies or cultivated forests by drawing points across a map to show the extent of the entity, somewhat like you would draw bird ranges. the use of maps allowed geographers to unearth "new" records of particular phenomena (the cultivated forests, polyculture gardens, etc) which had not previously been documented on paper in conventional ways. they keep using the word "colonial" to describe the conventional records but honestly you don't even need to, what this is really talking about is archaeological records that are unearthed from the ground versus historical records on paper or stone. if I'm not reading this article wrong it would actually be weird to oppose this because it would basically mean nobody was ever allowed to do archaeology. there really are "records" which are only found in the physical shape of settlements, why is that so controversial now when people are studying ancient agriculture instead of pottery? it has to be that books like Black Rice are describing things in weird academic phrasings rather than explaining things in simple ways that start with the physical world which is being observed. this sounds like a legitimate field which is bogged down by postmodernism and all the nods to multiple realities making it not make any sense.
- Black geographies -> it's like agroecology geographies but for people-groups. the concept makes more sense when it's mapping specific cultural practices or ancient "industries", but graphing the extents of populations on a map doesn't not make sense.
- Black livingness / to construct new archives based on Black livingness and ingenuity / Black livingness as archival work -> so... is Black livingness when you make use of populations or oral histories instead of some kind of paper record that's not alive? they keep saying the words "Black livingness as archival work". so is livingness a variety of archive, then? this may be the best I can do.
- Black livingness [5] -> this article discusses examining Black elementary school students and how they express themselves, presumably in situations of limited literacy or clashes of dialect. ok. you can probably get something interesting out of that in terms of making people aware of multiple populations. I guess livingness does refer to getting information from living people.
