generalized dictator + Animal Farm = Animal Farm is about fascism. - Animal Farm (2026) was written for China -> this idea is crazy but it's one of the only things that might actually explain it. someone somehow miraculously learned about discourses in China (that happened over a decade ago to be honest) where some people were upset about the country opening up to foreign capital, and fixed a movie for China in the most unusual way, actually rewriting the plot instead of just censoring out gay people and whatnot. I might be overthinking this... but the thought of US screenwriters having to learn about Deng Xiaoping Thought is just so funny.
option 2 is that nobody was thinking about China, and the writers just genuinely started to sympathize with the notion of the Soviet Union getting besieged by foreign capital without knowing that's what they're doing. that honestly sounds way more far-fetched to me. - Animal Farm is not a kids' book (Orwell) -> I think that's rather debatable when it's repeatedly been taught in schools. the teachers' pages say... 9th grade? that's about. 14. so you could argue it's Young-Adult, pretty fairly. but honestly a lot of Young Adult books are colloquially called children's books, Harry Potter notably. it really depends on what you mean by children.

- Animal Farm tells Trotsky's story / "Trotsky was expelled from Bolshevik society" is the only accurate historical statement made by Animal Farm, not excluding other tiny "accuracies", but not taking away from all the inaccuracies -> even that one is on thin ice, but I have to grant it because the graphic novel version of the book was all right and through all its omissions kind of accidentally focused on the struggles of the animals more. it's funny how often people misremember the book as being positive toward the farm animals and their struggle to be free, and it seems like a little of that sneaks into every single adaptation. I might have hated this book if I only had the prose. but the more I see people "misinterpret" it and accidentally make it more historically accurate, the more I'm willing to meet it in the middle and use it as a teaching tool about how Trotsky found the Soviet Union terribly disorienting, but he didn't have the answers on how to fix it, but you can sympathize with his suffering if you want to.
