Main entry

  1. United Kingdom porn ban (England & Wales, 6 November 2026) [1] [2] [3] ->
    "it will be illegal to possess or publish porn which shows strangulation or suffocation, depicts sexual activity between people who are related or shows adults role-playing as children under 16". wait. so, are the first two things only in the case of the last two, or independently of them? if it's independently, that's really weird.
    they claim teenagers were learning from depictions of adults, apparently.
  2. United Kingdom porn ban -> adopted relatives only count if they're under 18. everything else is independent of the other things.
  3. United Kingdom porn ban -> they also claim that this is meant to be a regulation on online platforms (corporations) instead of individuals. including UK corporations that distribute content globally.
    somehow, that is the most interesting part of the whole thing. a law designed to stop products from entering society by attacking a corporation (one something like a retailer) and stopping it from distributing products to the world. I wish this was about something other than what it was. ...wait. this happened with iPhone jacks. everyone was glad that iPhone jacks got regulated in Europe. but people are not happy when the same happens to... "art" because of the way that anyone can produce or distribute it and it can never be fully enclosed. to be fair that is a problem for all art.

  2. BBFC rules [5] -> why am I reading through the UK porn rules in my spare time for almost no actual reason? (which are actually the overall age rating rules.) oh well. I am very interested in the general concept of business regulations. and for some reason this is one of the areas of regulation that people get the angriest about.
  3. BBFC rules / The legislation provides the same level of protection to the online world that exists on the high street ... in a converging media world these provisions must be coherent [6] -> warning: the link is a lot. though all of them are only text, all the links on this page are more detailed than this page and need a warning.
  4. Ofcom [7] [8] -> this is a British regulatory agency granted power by parliament. I somehow had never heard of it before.
