  1. A Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right (Marx 1843) [1]

Motifs or claims

  1. Germany is a Third World country (1843) / In France, partial emancipation is the basis of universal emancipation; in Germany, universal emancipation is the conditio sine qua non of any partial emancipation (Marx 1843) [2] / Germany contains industrialization, but at the same time Germany is a country without any true ruling class capable of leading the empire, so it is the kind of country that will only form a republic through the class below all ruling classes / Germany can emancipate itself from the Middle Ages only if it emancipates itself at the same time from the partial victories over the Middle Ages (Marx) ->
    I might be projecting things a little bit but that really sounds like Marx is placing 1843 Germany in the position of the 1900s Soviet Union, and like he is proposing something like "combined development". I knew there was weird stuff going on in Germany, that Nazi Germany didn't come from nowhere, and that Germany had become a First World country at some unclear time before 2020. it's nice to have an actual point in time for Germany apparently being in a Third-World condition before getting to East Germany or Liberal-republicanism.
    Germany is so important, not for its successes (which there were tragically few of) but simply for its distinct periods of development. there is so much that fantasy authors could learn by studying Germany specifically in periods other than the Nazi period
  2. Germany can emancipate itself from the Middle Ages only if it emancipates itself at the same time from the partial victories over the Middle Ages (Marx) -> well if that isn't an explicit declaration Germany is still partly in feudalism... that is definitely what he is saying, whether or not it's accurate.
  3. universal suffering / a sphere which has a universal character by its universal suffering and claims no particular right because no particular wrong, but wrong generally, is perpetuated against it (Marx 1844, Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right) / a class with radical chains / (9k)
  4. chains (Marxism) / (9k) ->
    in this text "chains" refers to either being under the power of ruling classes as actively ruled France, or great numbers of people starving while the ruling class survives as happened at other times in France (including a small amount of it today). yes, this becomes a touchy subject when you start talking about the Soviet Union and pointing out that there was an apparent phenomenon of universal suffering among the peasants and small owners compared with the bureaucrats, and perhaps implying that with the bureaucrats being a structure passed down from the old feudal order the population would be better served by a worldwide population of small owners smashing the Soviet government and absorbing the small producers into the First World. that is not what Marx endorsed, because his important insight was that all the ruling classes would have to be replaced by the thing below them, and in the 'book of revelation' pattern one of the existing ruling classes takes over the world. as soon as he says that particular sentence, the possibilities have been narrowed down to proletarian republic in one country or Trotskyism.
    the part about kings says that the emergence of the proletariat means that every meaningful ruling class territory within a former kingdom flattens to the point you have a country region full of proletarians and nothing else who will all have to form the structure of that country. that part negates blue countries (once again) but says nothing about the interesting question.
  5. A Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right -> so... Marx had not solved the problem of what a proletarian civilization looks like in that year. this text by Marx is actually crimson, as crazy as that is.
