Usage notes

This Property is to be used for any two fictional narratives or world-models that build on each other and thus are continuous with each other. This same basic concept can apply to:

Fictional works. The Dragon Ball show is continuous with Dragon Ball Z in both directions. Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super are continuous with Dragon Ball Z in the forward-pointing direction. Fans might be divided whether Dragon Ball Super is actually backward-continuous with the Dragon Ball Z era or not.
Fan works. If a fan work is ever represented on an Item page, it can be said to be continuous in a forward direction only with whatever work it is based on.
Mythical or religious narratives. Two "serialized" or slowly-added chapters of the mythical fantasy narrative Journey to the West are continuous. Two Greek hero stories which one could expect would be told by the same local constellation of polytheistic town-cults and which have consistent story elements and rules are continuous. The Christian New Testament is continuous with the Christian Old Testament only in the forward-pointing direction though not necessarily backward.
Philosophical traditions. The models of Marx and Engels are continuous with Trotskyism in the forward-pointing direction, just as they are continuous with Juche-socialism and mainstream Marxism-Leninism in the forward direction. It can be argued that mainstream Marxism-Leninism and the works of Marx and Engels are continuous in both directions. However, Trotskyism and mainstream Marxism-Leninism are not continuous with each other.
Representations of reality in fiction. If the Fantastic Beasts films show footage of World War II, then their fictional timeline could be said to be continuous with the World War II period.

I feel like the answer is yes precisely when they follow from an existing theoretical work in exactly the same way a fictional derivative work does, presuming previous works to be part of them. this allows easily coding the otherwise complex relationship that the collected works of Lenin are "canon" to Trotskyism without the faction of people immediately connected to Lenin actually approving of that. however this should not be used across the boundary between fiction and non-fiction <em>unless</em> it is meant to imply that the fictional work takes place inside a version of real-world history. sometimes this is the case. you can legitimately put some very funny inferences on the Fantastic Beasts entry although these would not belong directly on main-series Harry Potter entries.
