- The scientific stance that the only statements about the world we can make with high confidence are about phenomena that can be measured through physical processes, rather than being causally isolated from any experimental apparatus. The process of investigating the world through observational studies and constructing mathematical models of processes which are outwardly-observable, mostly avoiding "hidden variable theories" which take blind guesses on processes which have no known way of being observed.
