Usage notes[edit]

This is the claim that the best ending of Deltarune will be the neutral ending, while both the apparent "good" and "bad" endings are not actually good endings. While there are many ways to interpret this hypothetical literary motif symbolically or philosophically, for the purposes of this entry, this surface motif is the only necessary part of the claim.

The theme of "in-between" has appeared several times in Deltarune, such as with the egg man in the "room in-between", pronounced IMAGE_FRIEND appearing in the space between meaningful rooms in the Dark World, and Sans' store being "clopen". Although most questions relating to Deltarune can be described as "inconclusive", there are currently reasons to think the themes of the work may be hinting toward this claim.

Color swatch[edit]

The DG color swatch on this entry references schizoanalysis and the book A Thousand Plateaus, which is one of multiple different philosophical works that discusses the concept that it is better for various things to be "in between". The use of this color swatch is not meant to state that Toby Fox intended for this particular philosophy to be represented in the game, and only means that the two things happen to be outwardly similar.
