Prototype notes[edit]
[taken from a Category page I started creating and then stopped]
This is a Category for Items which were used as sources on some other page and were obtained in used condition locally rather than shipped in from a different region. If the item was obtained at a dedicated used book store, thrift store, garage sale, or simply as a gift from a neighbor at a time when it would not be uncommon for other people in the area to have a used copy it may be eligible to be placed in this Category. A pile of free books labeled "limit 2" counts as a used book sale, as does a free bookshelf where anyone can take home a book (although items found at one of these may also be worth putting in their own Category). The most important distinction between a "used book sale" and something that is not is that there is some kind of consistent building, park tent, or address someone can enter to buy the book which does not require traveling over 60 kilometers (37 miles) to reach it starting from the residence of the closest person to it that brought the topic up, and the book does not cost more than a similar new book. (The "60 kilometers" number is meant to serve as a guide for the distance between a major city and a small satellite city. If you live in a rural town only 58 kilometers from a city but by the time you get to the end of the 58 kilometers you are clearly entering a different population, use your best judgement and consider it 60 kilometers.)
For adding a source to this category you do not need extensive proof. All that is needed is a permanent link to an edit where some particular editor added a citation and the citation identified the source as being obtained used, and did not state or imply the source obtained used using a multinational corporation such as Amazon or eBay.
