From Philosophical Research

this project has been defunct for a long time until R.D. came up with the conspiracy theory that it was actually an alternate timeline for Ironblood, and eventually pushed me to start putting stuff up here. I have to say, I've missed doing this, and it's great to come back to it.

Pre-project scraps[edit]

  • the sonic is a sentient glitch thing - unfinished story inspired by Sonic '06 where Sonic was only created in the first place due to a terrible artifact in a very buggy game. notable only because it was another instance of me trying to experiment with stories made out of chatlogs.

Cretaceous Square[edit]

This was the precursor to the oldest version of Stablehand, and now may also be the precursor to the newest version if it successfully gets rewritten. In the very beginning it was an excuse to make characters; the characters were being fit into the Homestuck style, but this was more in the sense of a crossover than that they were really truly meant to be Homestuck characters. Accordingly, the Cretaceous Square characters would be slightly reworked for a new setting which would be themed around them, and this would be the Retrogarde Fantasy Stablehand setting.

The basic idea of this story was that it was largely chat-log-based much like Homestuck. It also featured pixel animations or fake screenshots, and I don't know if I would bother doing that again for the rewrite. I feel like totally static images drawn in any appropriate art style and reduced to indexed color for "retro" effect would probably work just as well. The new version of Cretaceous Square would be wholly written around the Stablehand characters without any Homestuck elements in it, so there would be no reason to preserve the Homestuck aesthetic versus Stablehand's "retrogarde" aesthetic.

Idealist era[edit]

The new concept for this project in the era of LithoGraphIca is that it is a world where people refused to understand the world as material so hard that Idealism became true. Questions about reality turned into mere sliders that were all subjective. Strange new dichotomies or juxtapositions of qualities became the new reality, and although everything distorted everybody forgot what was and wasn't normal. At one time in the distant past things were normal. Then the world became ruled by something called Attributes and whole periods of history got erased. For the longest time nobody even noticed that anything was wrong, until they realised there had been different Attributes before and the Attributes were periodically changing — much to their horror when they discovered these changes left little to nothing behind. It was as if the universe was built for Attributes but not for people. An investigation would begin to try to stabilise reality. But were people truly ready for the potentially horrifying consequences of what that would bring? To some people, the question might be better left unanswered.

The old stuff[edit]

We will slowly be restoring all the old blog posts if it proves to be possible. If not... at this point it actually might not matter, given that all the basic concepts are going to be somewhat redone.
