A kaiju-of-the-week series is a monster-of-the-week series focusing on kaiju- or yōkai-style beings. In the early days, some kaiju-of-the-week series were horror or sci-fi series, but after a certain point there also came to be a certain subcategory of "kaiju RPGs" and "kaiju adventures", most of them inspired by the Ultraman TV show metaseries (also known as "Ultra Series") or its sci-fi horror predecessor Ultra Q. In general, the concept of a kaiju-of-the-week series is easily re-invented whenever a horror serial gradually drifts into a general dark fantasy series about strange creatures, particularly when those creatures happen to fit into the definition of "kaiju", or "collectable creatures of the kind that happen to appear in anime".
Proposed Items[edit]
Kaiju games[edit]
- Pokémon
- Digimon
- Keitai Denjuu Telefang
- Yo-kai Watch
Kaiju-of-the-week shows[edit]
- Ultraman shows ontology
- Medabots / Medarot
- Yu-Gi-Oh - fits more into the "shows" category despite having simulators etc. With all the oddly-specific dragons, definitely counts as a kaiju-of-the-week show.
SSR entries[edit]
