Usage notes
This Item is meant to represent the material phenomenon of structural racism, to the best of everyone's knowledge about what the process looks like. It is not meant to be the mere motif of papers simply talking about it at all, should that distinction somehow become a relevant problem.
Item number
The number "" has been popular among United States Tory types in the past 10 years as a sort of shorthand or nucleus for collecting together various piles of lingering racist conspiracy theories. The definition typically goes something like pointing to a small number of people in a minority and then making some point about numbers of crimes or how supposedly those numbers look worse when taken proportionally. [1] There are complicated reasons for these observed statistics. One of the quickest ways to illustrate the problems with these conspiracy theories is to point to the history behind specific cases, such as the case of car manufacturers leaving Detroit, Michigan and taking away some of the purpose for the city to exist — crime rates in Detroit stem from the city layout and historical conditions of Detroit, which are not conditions caused by any specific ethnic group.
Here the number is being used to block it from being used for any concepts which are worse than simply giving dry descriptions of the process of racism; on this project "" in an Item number will only refer to the concept of majority populations pushing minority populations into crime or out of society.
